Come out this Friday to the amazing community event celebrating Juneteenth! We will have some soul food meals for sale including bbq ribs, beans, collards and cornbread

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that finally freed ALL previously enslaved people. The Emancipation Proclamation was effective on January 1, 1863, two and a half years before word got to those enslaved in Texas. Juneteenth celebrates this freedom for all! "The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired laborer." The family fun includes: -Black Lives Matter sign-making with local artists - we hope you will all take a sign home!
-Puppet show storytelling: the history of Juneteenth -Travel through history with Black Music
-Soul food & strawberry soda pop
-Cash bar from Blackbird Bistro
-Black historical resources
-Dress in Style if you are inspired! *Masks and social distancing encouraged
